Nebraska politicians react to State of the Union

Responses are coming from Nebraska's congressional delegation to Tuesday night's State of the Union address. Third District Congressman, republican Adrian Smith said in a statement:

"Strengthening our nation's economy - creating jobs and putting Americans back to work - is the number one priority for Nebraskans. But we aren't looking for more of the same policies of the last three years. More government, more taxes, more stimulus spending. It hasn't worked."

From the other side of the aisle, Democratic Senator Ben Nelson called for an end to partisanship.

In his words, "The President's proposals, and other ideas from Congress, are all headed to the dustbin of history unless Washington ends its job-killing gridlock."

Nelson went on to say that he is ready to work together with Republicans, Democrats and Independents to get the job done.

Meanwhile, Republican Senator Mike Johanns wanted more explanation on the President's decision to deny construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Johanns said that he, in his words,"also welcomes expanding our domestic energy reserves, but those promises ring hollow just days after his hasty rejection of the Keystone X-L pipeline."

Johanns went on to say that not revisiting that decision during last night's address was a missed opportunity to create tens of thousands of American jobs and decrease the nation's dependence on unfriendly energy sources.
