One local elementary school got a visit from the first lady Friday. Nebraska's first lady, Sally Ganem.

She spoke with Morton Elementary students on the importance of reading. It's part of Morton's Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program.

Ganem is a former teacher and school principal.

"This is Read Across America week and we certainly want to focus on the importance of literacy and reading. How important reading is to our everyday lives and how important reading is to them. Now I also do an anecdote that just relates to kids, if you don't learn how to read, how in the world are you going to text your friends when you're in junior high," said Ganem.

Ganem spoke to two groups of kids. She also read an alphabet book about Nebraska to get kids involved and learn about their state.
