Husker fans barely had enough time to digest the fact that Tom Osborne was retiring, and his replacement has already been picked.

That announcement was a week ago.

Thursday, Chancellor Harvey Perlman named Shawn Eichorst as Nebraska's New Athletic Director. Eichorst comes from the University of Miami. He served as their AD for the past 18 months.

Eichorst was not in Lincoln Thursday, but he made a surprise visit to campus recently.

Miami made a trip to Manhattan Kansas to play Kansas State in football on September 8th. During the visit, he came to Lincoln to tour the campus and meet with Harvey Perlman.

Perlman says he interviewed just one other candidate. So, it was clear Eichorst was his number one choice.

The announcement came quickly, as Chancellor Harvey Perlman offered the job to Eichorst just Wednesday night. Thursday morning, he resigned as Miami's Athletic Director.

Chancellor Perlman says Eichorst brings qualities that fit in Lincoln.

Shawn Eichosrst will be introduced to Husker Nation next Tuesday at another press conference on campus.

On October 9th, Eichorst will join the university as a special assistant to the chancellor.

His salary has been set at $973,000 a year.

Current AD Tom Osborne will step down January 1st.
