New standards approved for social studies curriculums

Tools

It's a topic that's created some controversy, the talk of expanding Nebraska's social studies curriculum. Friday it took another twist. The Nebraska board of education unanimously voted to adopt new social studies standards.

This has been a yearlong project.

The new standards covers economics, history, geography.
But, the two that has gotten the most attention from the public involve climate change and American Exceptionalism.

That concentrates on the United States unique form of government.
School districts have a year to either implement the new state standards or come up with their own curriculum.

This battle might not over yet.

Conservative groups could still fight Friday's decision.
