Offutt Air Force base partially evacuated due to suspicious package

Tools

A partial evacuation remains in effect at Offutt Air Force Base after a suspicious package was detected in a commercial moving van at the Capehart Road Gate earlier Friday.

The vehicle was going through a routine check prior to entering the base around 11:45 Friday morning when a K-9 military dog "hit" on the package. The Omaha Police Department Bomb Squad was called to the scene.

All personnel were advised that the StratCom gate was closed and those within 1,500 feet of the gate were directed to evacuate the area.

Bellevue police report Fort Crook Road was closed to all traffic between Highway 370 and Capehart with the exception of military personnel.
