Oldson murder trial continues on day 6
31 year old Catherine Beard was last seen on May 31st, 1989 at a tavern in Ord. Her remains were found in April 1992 in a rural Valley County field.
The case was cold for over two decades; before John Oldson was arrested last January in Missouri, charged with first degree murder. Talks of the diaries were brought up Monday for the first time and whether or not they will be used in the trial. We also heard testimony from Susan Pelster who overheard Oldson at the Someplace Else Tavern telling his wife at the time Minnie Oldson that if she didn't do what he wanted, he'd do the same thing to her that he'd done to Cathy. Barbara Dasher took the stand. She was married to a family friend of the Oldson's. She said Oldson told her before Cathy's remains were found that Cathy would never be found and that she deserved what she got. After Cathy's remains were found Dasher said she received a phone call from Oldson saying if she ever said anything she'd get the same thing Cathy got. Eugene Bower who had a relationship with Cathy testified that he drove by the Oldson's residence a few days or a week after her disappearance and saw Oldson's father's pickup truck being cleaned out, with buckets and water hoses and the seats were removed. The prosecution has a few more witnesses Tuesday. The trial is expected to take two weeks. |
