John Oldson, the former Ord resident arrested in Missouri for a 22 year old murder is back in Nebraska. News 5's Katie Gauthier was there late Thursday night when he was transferred to the Hall County Jail.
Valley County Sheriff Casey Hurlburt drove Oldson the 6 hours from Kansas City in a dark Sheriff's pick-up truck.
Oldson was booked into Hall County jail around 9:20 p.m Thursday night.
He was arrested in Missouri earlier this week for the 1989 murder of 31 year old Catherine Beard.
The case was reopened in 2008 by newly appointed Valley County Sheriff alongside then County Attorney Glen Clark.
Oldson was originally supposed to be held in Lincoln but Sheriff Hurlburt explains that Hall County is the closest Jail to Valley County that he felt comfortable holding him in.
Hurlburt is hoping the arrest can bring closure to the case.
"It's the first big step for Cathy. This is all about Cathy. We want to give Cathy justice and that's why we're here," said Hurlburt.
Oldson will be driven to his first court date February 6th in Valley County.
While I was in Ord yesterday I heard a lot of praise from local residents about the Sheriff's efforts in the case. I spoke with the Valley County Sheriff's Department Friday morning and they told me they welcomed Sheriff Hurlburt back to Ord with a large bouquet of balloons.
