Fire destroys local winery
An overnight fire that lasted several hours destroys a local winery. The fire was first reported around 2 a.m. Saturday at Miletta Vista Winery in Saint Paul. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
It started in the garage and spread quickly through the home. The owners were home at the time but did escape safely and no injuries were reported. Saint Paul Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire. They received mutual aid from Wolbach, Elba, Saint Libory and Dannebrog Fire Departments. A few items were salvaged but St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department says it's probably a total loss, which has a big effect on the surrounding community. "Well they do quite a business up here," said Shon Treat, Assitant Chief of the St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department. "They have their restaurant and the winery, so I'm sure it will be quite a loss to the community until they get it rebuilt." The fire was under control around 8 a.m. but the fire departments were putting out hot spots until Saturday afternoon. No word yet on whether the winery will be rebuilt. |
