A new World-Herald poll shows Nebraskans are becoming more supportive of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

The poll shows 61-percent approve of the pipeline, while 28-percent disapprove.

The poll was conducted 12 days after TransCanada announced a new route that would avoid the sand hills.

The poll also showed 46 percent of Democrats supported the project, while 40 percent opposed.

That compared with 70 percent support and 20 percent opposition among Republicans.

The poll was conducted by Wiese Research Associates of Omaha of 800 registered voters.

It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
