Work on a new hospital in Kearney has been at a standstill for about a year, but that could soon change. Right now, the new medical center is an empty shell of a building in southwest Kearney.

But the Kearney Planning Commission considered new plans Friday for the $20 million hospital.

They now go to the Kearney City Council for approval on December 11th.

Construction began in 2010 on a 78 acre site west of Yanney Heritage Park, but work was put on hold due to funding.

"Their plans are to secure financing and get their loan approved and get a building permit issued to begin work again on the hospital because the original one expired," said Kearney City Planner Lance Lang.

If approved, construction will begin next Spring and the hospital could be completed by July.
