Rather than taking a bus down I-80, a group of 13 students and their art professor are hiking along county roads by foot carrying their own supplies and wagon.

The students are enrolled in an art class called "Adventure Art" at Hastings College.

But, they call themselves "The Prairie Art Pioneers".

They started in Hastings Sunday morning and News 5 caught up with the group in Juniata.

Monday, they are finally trekking their way through Kenesaw. The instructor Steve Snell says their pretty tired and sore, but they're too far to turn back.

The Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney is their final destination.
Rediscovering the Central Nebraskan landscape is the goal of the field trip.

They will take their findings and reflections to the museum and create dialogue about their own experiences and those pioneers from the past.
