In a campus wide effort to cut down on food waste, UNK students reduced their waste in the cafeteria by 714 pounds.

A week ago Project Clean Plate was launched.

The Residence Hall Association and UNK Dining Services spearheaded the project.

After tracking the amount of food and liquid wasted at lunch and dinner in two days, the University found that in just one day over 680 pounds of food and liquid had been wasted.

After the initial numbers, organizers taught students how to waste less food.

Project Clean Plate will now donate the 714 pounds of food to Crossroads in Kearney for a special event on February 11th.
