Some are big, some are fluffy and some may remind you of your grandmother. That's right, quilts.

Quilts were on display at the 8th Annual Threads Across Nebraska Quilt Expo held at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney.

The two day event featured 29 vendors from all over the state.

It was first started as a fundraising effort to match a pledge made to the International Quilts Studies Center.

The funds from the Expo go to teach Nebraska students about quilting.

"We have a program that goes into the elementary schools to teach them about quilting and about the state," said coordinator LeAnne Killion. "The purpose is to spread the word about quilting and how and what it can accomplish and how it can help people express their creativity."

With the increase in attendance and awareness, Killion says that there are already a few surprises in the works for next year's expo.
