Railroad ties set ablaze in Grand Island

Tools

If you were out this afternoon in Grand Island you probably saw the giant plume of black smoke billowing above part of the city.

It's from a large pile of railroad ties.

They've been burning for some time now near 70th and Alda Roads.

We don't have information on how the fire started at this time, but what we do know is the fire at Freight Car Rail Services started some time before 3:00 pm.

We'll update you with more information on the cause of the fire as soon as we can.
