Residents forced to leave Mobile Manor

by Amy West

The Department of Environmental Quality told them to fix up or shut down. Well, after three months notice, residents at Grand Island's Mobile Manor move out.

More than 20 families forced out of their homes after bad combination of a failing septic system and a low water table bringing sewage to the surface.

Power will turn off Tuesday, but about half of the trailers remain – some immovable.

Barbra Goatly has lived in this trailer for more than 20 years.

"We were hoping to live the rest of our lives out here but that changes due to circumstances of the water table and the water that was fit to drink so we had to close it down," said Goatly.

Repairing the septic system would cost more than $100,000 - money the owners said they cannot finance.

After looking for buyers and exhausting all options closing the park was the last resort.
