Residents make last minute preparations for storm
Central Nebraskans have been preparing for the storm all day. It was a good time to do it. We have less than an inch of snow on the ground, but as News 5's Joe Thompson said Thursday will be a bear.
Still no picnic though for News 5's Katie Gauthier who was out braving the elements Wednesday night.
It's just spitting snow right now. We're outside the Big G Ace Hardware in Hastings.
This is Highway 281 behind me - you can see a few cars. The brunt of the storm hasn't hit us yet like Joe said.
Local residents were out earlier this evening trying to stock up on some essentials to prepare for the storm.
"I don't like the snow. I'm not looking forward to scooping snow but it's alright. Can't change it."
Whether you favor the white puffy flakes or not, preparing for the storm is important.
"We've sold some snow blowers. Well, in the past couple weeks we've sold some snow blowers. I expect if people can get in they might buy some tomorrow too."
From shovels to ice melt, local residents are stocking up on the snow essentials at the Big G Ace in Hastings.
"Most of them are buying snow related, snow shovels, chipins for the snow blowers, and stuff like that.
"We just came to pick up a few things since we're probably going to be snowed in."
But customers like Jill are purchasing items to keep busy while snowed in.
"We're redoing a room so we're going to go ahead and pick up some stuff and work on that tonight and tomorrow.
And others are doing the same.
"Well I'm getting a snow day tomorrow and so I bought some stuff for staining, at home going to have a day of staining and varnishing and stuff."
"My wife has gone to the grocery store and stocked up on groceries and things like that so that's the main thing."
Others are hitting the pumps to fill up.
"I just got done buying some gas for my snow blower and went grocery shopping got food."
"I'm fueling up now and making sure I have a full tank of gas in case anything happens. So I'll be prepared."
"If I can get out I'm gonna go to work, If I can't get out then I'll probably scoop snow."
