Road conditions force travelers to wait out the storm
Kearney Police Department says roads in the downtown area are pretty impassable even with plows out on the streets trying to keep at least on lane open.
As far as accidents, they say not too many reported, and that's probably because people are staying off the road. That's good advice. Those dangerous road conditions are forcing many people to make a pit stop. Bosselman's Travel Center off of Highway 281 in Grand Island is packed with people who say the weather is just too bad to bear. "I'm not stuck I just don't want to drive any further because the weather out there is pretty bad," said Mike MgGuinness. "There's no way I'm getting back home in this. I've been here since last night and I'm staying over at the hotel. I drove over here and now my car's actually drifted in here," Brittany Sok said. "Supposed to be over at North Platte by midnight, but I don't think that's going to happen because if it's like this I'm not going two hours down the road, take a chance of somebody hitting you," said Jeff Goheen. Truck drivers are seeking shelter. They're just waiting for the storm to calm down before hitting the road again. |
