Salvation Army Toy Towne opens in Hastings

Volunteers and staff at the Hastings Salvation Army are helping make Christmas a little merrier for are kids. The Toy Towne store opened in downtown Hastings Wednesday so qualified parents could shop for Christmas gifts.

The Toy Towne store is set up so qualified parents could shop for toys to wrap and place under their family tree without their child ever knowing the origin of those toys.

Along with toys, about 300 Christmas food boxer were also available for low income families.

Major Abe Tamayo says without the support of the community, Toy Towne could never happen.

"There'd be no toys, no special meal, no food boxes going through if not for the ministries of the Salvation Army and other like agencies in the community," said Tamayo.

Along with the toys, parents got to pick out a stuffed animal to go along with the gift as well.
