Salvation Army gets a unique kettle donation
It's that time of year when gracious hearts give a little bit more of their time and also of their money.
The Salvation Army kettle campaign is in full swing. Bell ringers are braving the cold for long hours at several businesses in Hastings. As of Thursday afternoon the campaign reported having raised $50,283. Their goal is $175,000 for the year. But yesterday the Salvation Army received an interesting donation at one of their Wal-mart kettles. "In that bag was a twenty dollar gold certificate from 1923 and a two dollar bill from 1923 and an assortment of coins and bills of interest to us. I don't know what value it is yet, but we know that they're interesting and a piece of history," said Hastings Salvation Army Major Abe Tamayo. The Salvation Army is in need of more bell ringers plus more volunteers in the afternoon for the Toy Trailer Drive at Wal-mart this Saturday, December 8th. |
