Salvation Army collects toys at Wal-mart

Christmas is a time of giving and this year the Salvation Army teamed up with a major retailer to help those in need have a bright Christmas.

Seeing the Salvation Army bell ringers is an annual sight but this year along with the familiar tingle of the bell and red collection pot was a simple white trailer.

Wal-Mart has teamed with the Salvation Army to collect toys and coats along with the usual monetary offerings.

The Salvation Army says they're only a third of the way to their normal yearly goal.

"Understand too, that a gift to the Salvation Army at Christmas is a gift that gives all year round. This is our primary fundraiser for the entire year, helping us help people stay in their homes and meet their needs throughout the entire year," said Major Abe Tamayo.

Major Tamayo says he felt positive about the local response to the trailer and hopes the initiative becomes an annual campaign.
