Salvation Army urges public to help assist needy families

They assist thousands of local families every year helping with rent and their utilities. This time the Hastings Salvation army needs your help.
And fast.

With just 12 days of Christmas remaining the local organization is asking for more contributions for their annual Red Kettle Fund Drive campaign.

They currently have raised $60,496. That's just 35 percent of their $175,000 goal.

The money raised provides Christmas food boxes and new toys for low income families. It also funds the Salvation Army's operating budget for the entire year.

"So still have $111,000 remaining and we're hoping over the next couple of weeks that people will open their purses and wallets and make that dream come true," said Major Abe Tamayo.

If you'd like help you can donate to the Salvation Army at 400 South Burlington, PO Box 546 in Hastings.
