Senate to vote again on Hagel nomination

Tools

In Washington; Arizona Republican John McCain believes the Senate will move forward in confirming former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary.

Lawmakers are scheduled to vote again Tuesday on whether to end a Republican filibuster of Hagel's nomination.

Last week, 15 GOP senators sent a letter to President Obama calling on him to withdraw the nomination.

McCain did not sign that letter.

Two weeks ago, before the Senate went on its President's Day recess, an attempt to end the filibuster of the nomination fell short of the 60 votes needed.

Senator McCain is not alone in his assumption that Hagel will eventually get the cabinet post.

Other GOP lawmakers have also said they expect Hagel to be confirmed; but, with just a handful of Republican votes.
