It was a bittersweet day for Nebraska Democratic Senator Ben Nelson.
After 12 years in the U.S. Senate, he delievered his farewell address Wednesday.

His greatest accomplishment, he said working with the gang of 14 in 2005. His final message was one of unity.

"Congress needs to change its math. By that I mean members of Congress should be more concerned about multiplication and addition than division and subtraction that seems to overtake this institution at times. my hope that in the process of doing this, that congress and our nation will have a stronger desire to find solutiosn for the country's greatest challenges more so than any effort to drive our citizenry apart," said Nelson.

Nelson replaced Bob Kerrey back in 2000.
He will be replaced by recently elected Republican Deb Fischer.
