Senator Fischer settles in to new position

Included among the new faces in Washington is Nebraska U.S. Senator, Deb Fischer who was sworn in Thursday. Fischer was escorted by the, now senior, Senator Mike Johanns.

The Valentine native is one is of a record breaking 20 women in the Senate; along with 78 female representatives in the House.

Senator Fischer said she is "thankful for this opportunity," "honored by the trust placed in her," and "proud to represent the interest of all Nebraskans."

As far as committee assignments: Fischer will serve on Armed Services; Commerce, Science and Transportation; Environment and Public Works; Small business; and Indian Affairs Committees.
