Ever since the election has ended, all the talk in Washington has been about the fiscal cliff America is facing.

Experts say a failure to overt the fiscal cliff will be a devastating blow to the economy causing another recession.

Nebraska US Senator Mike Johanns will be in on discussions for a solution.

In a conference call Thursday, Johanns says he has a good feeling about moving forward after the election.

Political experts say if the fiscal cliff isn't addressed before the end of the year, it could be another black eye on the record of those in Congress.

With the fiscal cliff fast approaching, time is limited to address a host of tax rate expirations and spending cuts.

"Why don't we put a plan in place to deal with entitlements, that literally we can't keep up with financially, why don't we deal with a tax code that is so out of date and so riddled with loopholes and special favors," said Johanns.

Senator Johanns says, failure to act will result in another recession.

"If you have children and you are able to take advantage of the child care tax credit that's like a thousand dollar coupon take this off your taxes that would disappear."

But for a short time the fiscal cliff talk has been pushed to the side, and the scandal involving CIA director David Patraeus and General Allen has taken center stage.

"I can't think of a more sensitive position in the U.S. government other than President of the United States. It is just one of those key critical positions. Lives depend upon the quality and the intelligence and you always have to hope and believe that the intelligence is never compromised."

Johanns says Patreaus did the right thing in stepping aside. But the issue shouldn't derail from current important policy matters.

"We've got to deal with this fiscal cliff and we shouldn't be speculating on how bad or good it'll be, but just get the problem solved."

Senator Johanns also points out if Congress doesn't act Americans will face the steepest tax increase in American history.
