Senator Nelson comments on fiscal cliff

The end of the calendar year means possible tax hikes for the average American. News 5 caught up with retiring U.S. Senator Ben Nelson Saturday to get his take on the so called fiscal cliff.

Nelson was speaking at the final day of the Nebraska Farmer's Union convention.

He says both the Senate and House are to blame for the fiscal cliff.

"It exists because it's self-inflicted," said Nelson. "A year and a half ago a majority of the Senate and the House kicked the can down the road with creating a super committee that failed. Waiting a year and a half now to even deal with the issue of spending and tax cuts."

He also said that the time for political ideology in the talks is long past.
