Moving on and moving forward. Those were the words from the governor Monday after the sudden resignation of Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy.
That resignation echoed through the walls of the capitol Monday as state senators returned to work for the first time since that announcement.

It was business as usual here at the state capitol Monday, just two days after Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy submitted his letter of resignation effective immediately.

There was a lot of shock and disappointment from state senators News 5 spoke with Monday.

"My initial reaction was shock, my second reaction was I really don't believe it and my third reaction is wow," said Senator Les Seiler.

"I guess I would just say I was surprised. I think that expresses the sentiments from most of my colleagues," Senator Steve Lathrop said.

"I'm looking for someone who will make a commitment not to run for governor in 2014, I'm not trying to give anyone an advantage over another," said Governor Heineman.

"There's not much conversation on the floor of it, I think everyone is just going on about their business, we've got our own problems," Seiler said.

"He's up at the front desk, telling people when they get to speak, and sort of maintaining order from the front bench," said Lathrop.

"He's been a friend for a long time, yeah, it's disappointing, that's when I said shock, I think that's the initial thing, is oh I don't believe it and then you say, well, I'm really disappointed that the facts came out and that he resigned," said Seiler.

"I'm expecting this person to fulfill the office of lieutenant governor in a very vigorous manner," Heineman said.

The governor said the process of choosing the next lieutenant governor could take up to three weeks. This week he's focused on tax reform.

State Auditor Mike Foley said today that Sheehy's phone was part of an unlimited plan, so there was not additional cost to the state with the phone calls.
