While the race for Nebraska's next governor is down to one, candidate Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy says he expects big competition come 2014.

Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood announced Thursday that he's dropping out of the race just one month after he entered it.

Flood's 36 year old wife was diagnosed with breast cancer on Monday.

The only other person in the race is Sheehy.

Friday in Hastings he said he's welcoming competition.

"And really it's a competitive process and going through a competitive process keeps a person sharper, than not having the process. So, I would expect somebody, maybe one, two, three people, you know it will be an open seat. I'm expecting somebody," Sheehy said.

Sheehy was in Hastings speaking to the Rotary Club of at the Garden Café.
