Shoppers take advantage of after Christmas sales
Now that all the presents are opened and the holidays are winding down, shoppers are making their way back to the stores. Those shoppers are armed with gift cards, returns and maybe some Christmas cash, which would be good news for retailers.
News 5's Josh Egbert caught up with some of those shoppers Wednesday and has more. "We're going to go shopping and do a few returns," said Melissa Sack. People are hitting malls and departments stores the day after Christmas scavenging for bargains and returning or exchanging gifts. "Not too many, just some shirts that were a little too small for the kids," Sack said. For a few of those shoppers, they came armed with those ever so popular gift cards. "We had some gift cards to spend and we had one last Christmas gift to get," said Susan Deitrick. Most any way. "Ya, but I didn't bring it." With some families celebrating Christmas a little late this year, they still have time to hit up the stores. "I'm looking for a Christmas gift for my mom and we are celebrating on Sunday," said Jill Edgren. But it's not just any gift. "She has a very specific item she wants and I haven't found it yet," Edgren said. Since black Friday people have been flocking to places like here at the Conestoga Mall to get those deals, it's not known yet how good of a year it is for retailers, that should be known by the end of the year. According to the National Retail Federation, it's estimates retailers will ring up $586.1 billion in sales this year, up 4.1-percent from last year. Helping bring in the money, sales. "More than I expected, yeah, I did some extra browsing," said Edgren. "There are some great sales, aren't there?" said Dietrick. "Hitting up the sales to see if we can find some good bargains," said Sack. |
