Snow begins to intensify in central Nebraska

In the middle of the snow and wind we find News Five's Katie Gauthier who spoke with us from Big 'G' in Hastings. View the video for her full update on the storm.

Katie Gauthier: It's gotten a lot worse since this morning. It's pretty brutal out here now and you can possibly see those wind gusts as well. They're starting to really kick up to about 30 mph. You can see sustained winds up to 20 mph. And it's cold - it still feels like we're sitting in the single digits.

We're live outside the Big G Ace Hardware store here in Hastings. Take a look at Highway 281. The roads are really starting to decline out there. I would say on my drive in they were not as good as they were this morning.

And we do have snow drifts across the area. The bulk of the storm is starting to move in across the area and it's starting to get brutal. If you can stay home or head home I would do so now. Because maybe the driving conditions weren't so bad when you were out this morning, but they're really starting to deteriorate across the area. We have seen a couple plows go by and it's much needed because the snow is really starting to accumulate. We're expecting several more inches this afternoon.

The temperatures are the other big story. It's very cold and it gets cold very fast. If you do have to travel to get to work make sure you have a safety kit in your car because out in these temperatures you're really going to need it.
