Some local stores start “Black Friday” on Thanksgiving
It's being called the Black Friday Creep. When stores start opening to offer deals earlier and earlier.
Some stores are now welcoming customers all day on Thanksgiving.
Wal–mart and Sears are officially starting black Friday at 8pm Thursday night. Others, like Herberger's are opening Friday at midnight.
But, then there are others, like Kmart, that took it even farther.
Opening at 6 am Thursday morning with special deals.
"Crazy, that's what it is, crazy!" said Linda Hansen, Kmart Shopper.
Black Friday means packed shopping centers and money, money, money. Stores are looking for any way to pull in customers.
Opening on Thanksgiving means more customers, and more money.
"Last year with a lot of other retailers opening up at midnight, that kind of opened a can of worms," said Rodney Keesee, Kmart Manager.
Kmart is usually open on Thanksgiving. But, they're offering extra specials this year.
"For us, we're actually experiencing three black Fridays." said Keesee.
Doorbuster deals at 6 am Thursday morning, 8 pm Thursday night and 5 am Friday morning.
"We'll have some really big items like tv's and other items. Most of the time it's electronic items," said Keesee.
These deals are paying off.
"I came up here for some pop because it was on sale and went and looked at the tv's and I bought one," said Nicholas Kucera, Kmart Shopper.
With all these extra hours the store is open, some people are stuck working on the holiday.
"If you're in retail this is kind of the way it is," said Keesee
Stores just want to keep up with demand.
While some shoppers are trying to stock up on the early deals, others have a whole plan for the impending black Friday deals.
"We have some done. We have some today and we're definitely going out tomorrow."
It's becoming a tradition for many.
"Stand in line for the doors to open and all the people outside, they'll say the same thing. 'We're crazy standing out here freezing to death.' But, they still do it year after year," said Linda Hansen.
Kmart's next doorbuster deal starts at 8 pm Thursday night.
They'll close at 3 AM, then re–open for another doorbuster deal at 5 AM Friday.
