Special Report: "Making Do" Part 1
From cutting coupons to buying and selling local goods online to upscale consignment shops, Nebraskans are stretching their dollar in these tough economic times.
All this week on News 5 we're showing you how you too can get the most bang for your buck. Tonight as part of our News 5 Special Report, "Making Do" we tell you how one Hastings woman is saving thousands of dollars a year on her grocery bills simply by cutting coupons. You could say Linda Stutesman gets around. To the grocery store that is. She's known in these circles as the Coupon Queen for the amount of cash she's saving on everything from groceries to toiletries to just about everything else. "I saved $90.11. And how much did you spend? $65.23. And, how much would it have been? $155.34." Saving around 50% on her weekly grocery bill is typical and you can too. "Doing a little bit of homework, shopping your local ads, anybody can do this," said Stutesman. Linda says to start saving that hard earned cash, buy a Sunday paper and buy 2. Cut all relevant coupons, shop and compare those weekly grocery ads for deals and double coupon promotions. Stock up, if there's a great deal don't be afraid to buy more. Check the store's coupon policy and print coupons online. There just as good as the one's you get from the paper. "It's such a thrill. Saved about 50% and that's my goal every week." Going right back into her pocket that can stay in yours too. |
