State Fair sky tram construction comes to a halt
It served as the inspiration for this year's Nebraska State Fair theme "High Flying Fun," but there's a problem. That 40 foot high sky tram is now ruined. Just two weeks before the fair opens in Grand Island.
It was on the back of a semi truck that crashed on Interstate 80. Executive Director Joseph McDermott says they still hope to have the tram up and running in time for the fair. Columns are currently being installed. But the quest to finding the missing pieces won't happen overnight. "At this point there's no certainty that it will be up for opening day or for that matter at all during the fair but they are trying to determine what parts were destroyed in the accident and they're searching out replacement parts," said State Fair Executive Director Joseph McDermott. Installation could continue during the fair. But due safety precautions McDermott says there will be no short cuts. |
