State Health Insurance Program could spike costs per employee
Nebraska Watchdog has released a big story about the State Health Insurance Program. According to a state audit, it could be the most expensive in the nation.
According to Watchdog reporter Deena Winter, State Auditor Mike Foley fought for two years to get the audit completed. Once it was the audit found the state employee health insurance plan costs about $27,000 per employee - nearly $12,000 more than the national average. The reasons? Well, according to Watchdog's report, an inefficient plan design, excessive administrative expenses, poor program monitoring, unnecessary stop-loss insurance coverage and a huge reserve fund. The big question now is what will the legislature do with the information? |
