Students celebrate Dr. Suess' birthday

If he were still alive, writing books about flying creatures, and animals talking in rhyme, Doctor Seuss, he would be 109.

Friday students at elementary schools are celebrating early, At Alcott they spent the afternoon reading books - his surely. From the Lorax to the Grinch and Horton and Yertle. Reading his books with community members helps children cross the reading hurdle.

"It make's them practice. I have got some of my kids reading a little bit more telling them their partners are really going to look forward to them reading to them so it got them to practice a little bit more and better themselves as readers," said First Grade Teacher Jennifer Karl.

His birthday's not until Saturday, but students still celebrated Friday with cake and books and friends on hand, they read, also played.
