"Have you ever seen one of those prison movies, where the main character has two choices, you know? He either has the choice to pound the snot out of everybody, so everybody thinks he's tough and they'll stay out of his way, or he'll keep his head down and blend in."

Over 1100 students from around the state are competing in the annual state speech championships.

You just got a glimpse of one of the finalists from the Humorous Prose category.

He's acting out part of a story about a middle school boy who meets bullies, crazy teachers and the love of his life.

Kipp Shaner says he practiced everyday leading up to the championships.

"I thought of the characters and I thought which pose should I do for them and normally the girls I thought stick out their hip. It's whatever makes the people laugh," Shaner said.

Friday is the second and final day of the championships. You can view the results of the Speech Championships at https://nsaahome.org/sp.php
