Symposium addresses teens and digital age issues
Cyber bullying, sexting, and poor internet use are said to be some of the biggest problems teens find themselves getting involved in or becoming a victim of.
The Nebraska Educational Service Unit and the Department of Ed held a Nebraska Digital Citizenship Symposium to address those issues today. Twenty school teams from across the state gathered including teachers, students, parents and administrators. "We had a little girl that had a boyfriend she thought he was her boyfriend on Skype. He told her that he couldn't send a video to her he could only receive videos and then he talked her into doing something on the video that really she shouldn't have done. The first time mom and dad found out about it was when the State Patrol knocked on mom and dad's door because the boyfriend was actually a 50 something year old meth addict who was selling these videos for $50 a download on the internet," said Attorney Karen Haase. From 2000 to 2010 cyber bullying has increased 500 percent. Almost 30 percent of teens between the ages of 13 and 19 have sent inappropriate content. |
