Tax season tips to get your refund early

by Dara Newson

It's about that time to gather those W2's, and 1099 forms. It's a headache for some and a last minute task for a few. We're now two months away from the tax deadline and good for news for you: the sooner you file, the quicker you get your money.

Jeremy Evans, CPA Manager from McDermott and Miller in Hastings, says the only expedited process to getting your refund, is if you file within the next couple of weeks.

And the biggest savings in time is getting your refund via direct deposit.

Evans also has advice on Roth Accounts and what tax payers can write off.

"If someone wanted to make an additional IRA contribution, if they were eligible, they could contribute up to $5,000 to a traditional IRA and deduct that on their tax return for 2011," said Evans.

There's no new regulations for filing your 2011 tax returns but keep in mind you do have a few extra days. The deadline is April 17th as Emancipation Day in Washington falls on the 15th.
