He said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. An overnight drive by shooting over the weekend puts three people behind bars for attempted murder.
Monday night one of the victims spoke to News 5's Anthony Pura about why he said he may have been attacked.
"We went straight, and they ran up behind my car and they started shooting. It was like bap, bap, bap!" said Jacob Barrientes.
Jacob Barrientes has never had a bullet fired at him. Early Sunday morning, he counted five.
It happened here, on Bellwood drive. Barrientes just dropped off his girlfriend and his 1–year–old daughter at his apartment.
He was headed to his cousin's house. His cousin's girlfriend was at the wheel. That's when a car came behind them and fired several shots.
"At first I didn't know it was a gun, then i looked at my back window and it was broken," said Barrientes.
He thought it was a bottle–bomb. Barrientes drove away, then drove around the block and came looking for the car.
"I didn't know it was a gunshot. I was so mad, I was going to go back just to go fight," Barrientes said.
But by that time, he said Grand Island Police were on scene.
Grand Island police arrested 23 year old Roberto Godoy, 34 year old Roberto Magallon, and 28 year old Heidi Owens.
"I'm just glad you know that my daughter wasn't in the car. She was ready to pass out so I laid her down to bed and I'm just glad my daughter wasn't in the car," said Barrientes.
But authorities did find children at scene. They said the suspects had 3–year–old twin boys in their car.
"When the police officers found out there were small children they took every precaution that you could to make sure they weren't hurt," said Officer Butch Hurst.
So what does Barrientes think of the whole thing? He's not sure. He thinks it's gang–related.
"My car, you know, it was an old rigo, you know. It's a gangster car, that's probably why," said Barrientes.
Godoy, Magallon and Owens are facing various felony charges including child abuse.
