Toddler remembered in Hastings
It's become an all too familiar tradition in Hastings. Candlelight vigils and balloon releases held for children that were killed after being struck by a car.
Nearly 50 Hastings residents gathered at the corner of South California and South Street Tuesday evening to remember the life of 19th month old Roy Lagunas Jr. Hastings Police say Lagunas was hit by multiple cars at that location on Sunday night. His death comes less than a month after 2-year old Tryson Ruff was fatally struck by a car as well on 7th street in Hastings. Tuesday night residents lined the streets and left stuffed animals, pictures, and balloons to honor the boy killed in this tragic accident. The family was touched by the turn out. "We feel like there's a lot of support and we're thankful for that support and that they're here helping us through these hard times," said cousin of victim Lesly Chavez. "This was a beautiful child. I saw him only a week or so ago when they were having their yard sale and I waved to him and he said and I said hi baby. I'm so sad," neighbor Josephine Chase said. "We should pay more attention to these type of accidents because I do believe the second one is too many. The second is, I think, definitely something is going on," said Hastings resident Emilio Llas. There was no ticket issued and no charges were filed in the accident.. |
