Trails and Rails Museum raises funds for expansion
The Buffalo County Historical Society in Kearney is looking to expand its vibrant history. Last week the organization began a public campaign for $3.1 million to add onto its Trails and Rails Museum site.
The museum has been around since 1971. But as its rich history continues to grow space is becoming limited. The money will be used to construct an archive building with historical documents. It will be called the Family History Center. The campaign has already raised $740,000 of its goal. "It's not just to come in and see, quote un-quote, old artifacts; it's about the way people are living nowadays," said Executive Director Jennifer Murrish. "We have like a half marathon, we have ghost hunting events so the headquarter building will be a very large multipurpose area." The site would sit directly west of the current Trails and Rails Museum. The organization hopes to break ground by September of this year. |
