Tri-City crews work to wrap up street cleanup

While there are a lot of negative comments on our Facebook page about Hastings Public deciding to open Friday there's a lot of praise for the Hastings Street Department.

When the News 5 crew headed home last night most of the main roads had already been cleared.

Crews had the residential areas all finished up by about 6:30 Monday morning about the same time Hastings Public made the decision to hold classes as scheduled.

After 30 straight hours of snow removal, the city of Kearney says they're almost done clearing streets.

Wet slush is the worst condition on most of the main streets .

The city focused on Emergency snow routes first, then moved to residential.

All that's left is clearing the snow banks from the downtown area.

"Downtown we still have a lot of snow piled up. We put it all in the middle of the streets and then we go in tonight and work all night down there hauling that snow out. But, after tonight we should be done and waiting for the next one I guess," said Rod Wiederspan.

Wiederspan added that they're also taking care of any streets that may have been missed.
