UNL receives grant for E coli research

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is getting $25 million in federal money to research various forms of E coli bacteria.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today that it has awarded the grant to help reduce the public health risks in the production of beef.

The project will focus on identifying various hazards and assessing exposures that lead to infections in cattle.

The findings could help improve detection methods, risk management and other protections.

The award is going to Dr. James Keen and a multi-institutional team of researchers and specialists.
