University of Nebraska will begin national security research

Areas dealing with national security will soon be researched at the Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha. Thursday, the University of Nebraska announced a long term partnership with the United States Strategic Command to create a University-Affiliated Research Center.

It will serve as a research center to deter and detect strategic attacks against the United States.

They'll study areas critical to national security including nuclear detection as well as detection of chemical and biological weapons.

The contract from the Department of Defense is up to $84 million over the next five years.
