Virus could severely impact deer hunting season
It's bad news for Nebraska deer hunters. Deer hunting season could be in jeopardy. That's because of a virus causing significant loss to the state's white-tailed deer population.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has received more than 3,000 reports regarding dead deer.
The commission says it's considering cutting the number of deer permits given out.
Hunters in northern and eastern counties of Nebraska say they have seen a large number of dead deer floating down rivers, in creek channels and in cut grain fields.
Deer are suffering from epizootic hemorrhagic disease which has accelerated this year because of the drought.
