A number of different illnesses are still going around Central Nebraska. News 5's Ginger ten Bensel takes a look in this week's edition of "What's Going Around"

Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice says it's definitely allergy season. He says he also continues to see patients with colds and bronchitis.

Plus, Johnson says that gastroenteritis, otherwise known as the stomach flu, is going around.

Symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea. Johnson says it's a viral illness that will come and go quickly.

He says that gastroenteritis is an illness that can go around year-round.

But, he says that sometimes it's more prevalent in the warmer weather months, while respiratory illnesses go around during the colder seasons.

Doctor Michael Hanich with the Kearney Clinic says that most of his patients are coming in for routine checkups.

He says it's important to have a routine check up every year but people on medications need to follow up every six months.

He says that his main concern is when someone is on chronic medications they need to make sure the medicines are not damaging their body.

He says that all medications have the potential for serious side effects so if you are on different medications you need to be monitored more closely.
