What's Going Around: Allergies, bronchitis
Asthma has put some Central Nebraska children in the hospital.
But that's not all that doctors are seeing. Dr. Janice Kutilek with the Grand Island Clinic says that she had to hospitalize several children with severe asthma flare ups. The children came into her office wheezing heavily. She said there are a lot of allergens in the air right now including dust and mold. Kutilek warns if you have asthma or severe fall allergy problems stay inside. And if you have seasonal allergies and trouble with coughing and wheezing make sure you take your allergy medications. Two other illnesses going around are Gastroenteritis and strep throat. Plus, with flu season just around the corner it's recommended if you are around a newborn baby you need to have a flu shot. Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice is also seeing patients with respiratory problems. He's seen several patients with sinus infections and others with bronchitis. Bronchitis is a viral illness with a lingering cough. Johnson says that if you have a high fever, wheezing or if you are short of breath you need to see a doctor. Johnson did see and test several of his patients for pertussis, otherwise known as whooping cough, but as of now he has not seen any confirmed cases of the illness. |
