What's Going Around: Bronchitis, depression, flu
Bronchitis is just one of the illnesses Central Nebraskans are dealing with.
Doctor Michael Hanich with the Kearney Clinic says that bronchitis is going around. Hanich has seen several patients with the illness. Plus he is testing patients for West Nile Virus. But, he has not seen any new cases of the illness. He says that the patients he has tested are immune to West Nile Virus because they have already had it. Hanich is also seeing a lot of patients with depression. He says he's seeing more cases of depression than normal because the days are starting to get shorter causing people to have less time to get out into the sunlight. Hanich says that a lot of people are sun sensitive and they need sun exposure within reason. He added that sunscreen doesn't stop the benefits of sunshine. Finally, flu season is usually between December and February, but Hanich says that there have been some flu cases reported in other places. But he has not personally seen any cases of the flu this month. The Kearney Clinic will start giving flu shots in October. Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice says that he is still seeing several patients with diarrhea. Though he has not seen any patients with the flu he has seen some people dealing with flu-like symptoms which include headache and achiness. And some of his patients have lingering headaches. Like Doctor Hanich, Johnson has tested some patients for West Nile Virus but he has not seen any confirmed cases of the illness. For more information you can go to our website at KHASTV dot com. |
