What's Going Around: Influenza B, RSV, bronchitis
Some very severe seasonal illnesses are still going around. Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice says that bronchitis, pneumonia and the common cold are going around. Plus, he's still seeing patients with the flu, Influenza B to be exact.
Along with that he's seeing children with RSV.
And he is still seeing a few patients with gastroenteritis.
Dr. Janice Kutilek with the Grand Island Clinic says RSV is terrible. She says it's the number one illness she is seeing this week.
She diagnosed two different two-week-old babies with RSV.
She says that parents are staying home with their small babies, but people can carry RSV even if they have no symptoms. And they can pass it on without knowing it.
Kutilek says to protect babies from illnesses keep them away from the general public. Other tips include:
Keep your baby home. Don't take your baby to church or to the mall.
Wash your hands and face if you go to the store.
As far as the flu is concerned, Dr. Kutilek isn't seeing as many cases as she was in January.
But she is seeing patients with strep throat and common respiratory viruses.
