A lot of different illnesses are going around central Nebraska. Doctor Michael Hanich with the Kearney Clinic says that he's still seeing patients suffering from gastroenteritis.

And one of his patients suffered from a ruptured spleen and pulmonary Emboli. The patient was in the hospital recovering from a knee replacement.

The spleen ruptured. Hanich says there is no correlation with the spleen rupturing and surgery.

Symptoms of a ruptured spleen include a drop in blood pressure, shortness of breath and a drop in blood count which can go from normal to very low.

Symptoms of Pulmonary Emboli include shortness of breath, chest pain and a drop in oxygen levels.

Dr. Janice Kutilek with the Grand Island Clinic says she had two 18 month olds from two different families come in with MRSA.

She said that the children were very sick with the illness. It started with a tiny bump on the skin and it progressed overnight. The MRSA began to spread and the children ended up having a fever as well.

Plus, Kutilek has seen patients with RSV, Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The illness causes inflammation of the small air ways in the lungs.

And she has seen one person with infectious mono and two patients with pneumonia.

Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice says that bronchitis, sinus infection and the common cold are still going around in the Hastings area.
